Re:        Fall Trip - 2008

WHEN:   Sept. 10,11,12,13,14-2008

WHERE:  WESTPORT, ONTARIO, CANADA

This year we will be exploring a small section of the famous Rideau system. We will base in Westport, Ontario. This is about a 40 minute drive from the US/Canadian border at I-81 (Thousand Island Bridge).

If you check some of the links we have provided, you will learn about the host Inn, and be able to see the waterways we will be traveling. Our plans are to do a day trip to Perth Ontario, via Big Rideau Lake, and the Tay (river/canal). We will of course have lunch in Perth, and the ladies will be able to roam the streets and shop.

A second day trip will take us to The Opinicon Resort Inn/Lodge down by Chaffey’s Lock. We will have a great lunch in this 80 year (plus) old resort.

Our famous Friday night cocktail party will be held right at the Cove Inn. The location will be almost at waters edge.

Our group will have breakfast every morning at the Cove Inn, and they have a great Sat. evening buffet planned for the group.

HOST INN: The Cove Country Inn   www.coveinn.com

The Cove Country Inn was built in 1876 by the Fredenburg family. The properties have been open to the public continually since 1930. Today the main Inn has 10 rooms, and the 1875 Fredenburg House next door has 5 rooms. All rooms are period decorated, many with modern Jacuzzis and fireplaces. All are air conditioned. There are four beautiful bed and breakfasts, all within 2 blocks of the Inn, where overflow can be assigned. We will all be having breakfast at the main Inn every morning in dining room. There are several packages available, either with just room and breakfast, or room, breakfast and dinner.

Westport is a beautiful village. Plenty of shops are within walking distance for the ladies.

If we have a rain day, a couple very interesting boat shops are available, and a beautiful old village for shopping and lunch.

The exchange rate is even par with the US dollar at present. The Canadian GST Tax was lowered 1% last year, and another 1% on January 1, 2008. On the down side, the Canadian government no longer refunds your GST tax upon return for non-consumed items.
